How long does it take to learn how to use this NEW Encoder?
When you receive your new touch screen encoder, all you have to do is connect the AC power, the Internet and an audio/video source (video camera or the output of your TV control room) and click the Start button.
How does the encoder know what to “do”?
When the encoder is turned on, it automatically connects to Tech Werks on-line database and downloads over 20 unique items from your on-line account. A few of these items are the Name, Description, Copyright, Rating and Author for the “Next” video you are about to record or broadcast live. It also downloads items like the type of codec to use, the compression profile for the encoding and even which broadcast center to use.
Can the new Touch Screen encoder be used with Wi-Fi?
No, the encoder requires a hard wire connection. Wi-Fi works well for normal Internet access; however it does have several limitations. The biggest limitation is bandwidth. With Wi-Fi, bandwidth is limited to the signal strength and the number of people using that Wi-Fi access point. To stream video you need a set bandwidth which Wi-Fi cannot do. Wi-Fi is also susceptible to interference. Under normal use, most people don’t see this problem; it just looks like the Internet is slow. But with streaming video, this interference can total stop the video from working.
What type of video can I use?
The Touch Screen encoder is compatible with any Standard Definition Analog Audio and Video source. The encoder accepts NTSC, PAL and SECAM video. You can use a simple Camcorder that you can buy at any electronic store or the output of a professional TV control room.
What type of video does the New Touch Screen encoder make?
Right now the New Touch Screen encoder encodes to a windows media file. There are plans to add other type of compressions, including h.264 and VC-1.
How compressed is the video?
Tech Werks basic package offers 280kbps compression. However, Tech Werks can customize a compression profile on a per client bases. Tech Werks currently offers profiles from 7kbs up to 1mbs.
What quality is the audio?
Tech Werks basic package offers mono audio at 48kbps. This is better than CD audio which is 44kbps. However, Tech Werks can customize a compression profile on a per client bases and upon request, Tech Werks can change a profile to stereo audio.
Can I add an external monitor, keyboard or mouse?
You can add just a mouse, a keyboard or an external monitor to the NEW Touch Screen encoder or any combination.
Can I setup the video level coming into the New Touch Screen encoder?
Yes, you can select “Setup Video” and the Touch Screen encoder displays the video and a waveform monitor. You can use a slider bar and select any line of the video to be displayed on the waveform. Using the waveform, you can adjust Contrast, Brightest, Color level and Hue/Tint.
What types of audio inputs are on the NEW Touch Screen encoder?
The Touch Screen encoder has several inputs.
Left and Right line level - unity gain input. Unity gain input has no level adjustment on the encoder. This is designed to be used with an external audio mixer and the audio person does not want the encoder operator to adjust his levels.
Left and Right line level input. This input is designed to be used with an external audio mixer or any other line level audio source. Input level can be adjusted by the encoder.
Mike level input. This input is designed to be used with an external microphone. Input level can be adjusted by the encoder.
Can I add a “bug” or “logo” to the video like the major television networks do?
You can insert a graphic in the video. The Touch Screen encoder supports PNG, BMP and JPEG files. You can select a color to “key out” or the color that the video will show through. You can also adjust the transparency of the graphic.
Can I burn a CD or DVD of the videos on the encoder?
There is not a CD or DVD burner built into the Touch Screen encoder. Tech Werks has built in to the Touch Screen encoder the ability to “Share” the video hard drive on your network. If you select to enable this “Share” feature, then any computer on the same network as the Touch Screen encoder has access to the videos on the encoder. This gives you the ability to copy or move files to and from the encoder hard drive. You can then use your computer to make a CD or DVD. You can also move video files to your own network drives for archiving.
