PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• Owned and managed USI Communications. USI had 3 online edit suites, a remote truck it owned, a remote truck on lease and a manufacturing facility, building remote trucks and broadcast facilities
• Tech Manager for the Networks, nationally and internationally
• Lived in Seoul Korea to build the International Broadcast Center for NBC’s coverage of the 1988 Olympics
• One of the top trainers for Grass Valley Group on all VPE editors, DPM-100, 700, Model 110, 200, 1000, 1200, 3000 switchers
• Directed, TD, EIC and edited many interviews, music concerts, etc.


EXPERIENCE

I started in television at the age of 16 running camera. I work for a new satellite network as an ENG tech. I was able to go to RCA school for several different camera and tape machine in the early 80s. I traveled all over the world, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippians, Israel, France, Italy, etc.

In 1986, I moved to Dallas and started USI. USI was a full service broadcast company that did engineering work and production work. USI worked on many international events. USI had OEM agreements with many of the equipment manufactures, Grass Valley Group, Ikegami, Panasonic, Sony and etc. USI did engineering work for the Billy Graham organization international. USI built many different facilities for the Graham organization, including, 12 digital edit suites, designed for 96 languages. I was also vacation relive for ESPN Sports as an EIC on their trucks. In 1988, I was asked to go to Korea for 8 months. I was one of the tech managers for NBC news and the technical director for all the live news programs from Korea.

From 1987 to 1993, I was one of Grass Valley’s training and demonstrators for the VPE series editors, DMP series and Switcher series. During that time I also work in technical support in Grass Valley as vacation relief in customer service.

From 1989 to 1994, USI and I did training on editing, TD, camera, etc for NBC at most of their world wide bureaus, including DC and LA In 1994, I opened two edit suites in Dallas and one in Nashville. We edited mostly television programs and some corporate videos.

In 1995, I built our first remote television truck for USI. USI built their first truck in 1987. In 1996, USI built a truck for a client and then leased it back to USI. USI’s truck did entertainment programs. It cared, 5 cameras (could run 8), 48 channel digital multi-track audio and 21 foot jib.

In 1995, I moved to Marshall , NC and commuted to Dallas until 1999. During that time I took USI public. In 2000, I spun out the public shell to another company. Most of the equipment was “sold” to the key employees and I retired.

From 2000 until now, I have been semi-retired. I have built an Internet web casting business with several patients applied for. Partnered with a group so they can handle the company and I am a consultant for them.

In 2000 and 2004, I designed and was a tech manager for ABC NewsOne, for both election years. For the 2000 conventions we had 18 satellite paths. For the 2004 conventions we had 24 satellite paths and 6 fiber paths. Our clients were the ABC O and Os, ABC stations, APTN, BBC and other international networks. The election year start in January with the first primary and ends with the inauguration of the President. I also had to setup all the Internet distribution.

2003 – 2006, I have finished up the technical part for IQue, including writing our own operating system with Windows Embedded and programs in VB, VB .net and ASP online applications. I also have been freelancing for ABC as Tech Manager when the Columbia explosion, Pope travels and illness, Super Bowl, Shuttle lunches and landings. I have also been upgrading old USI customers into the digital age.

2006- 2008, I have built a 35MM to 2K, Digital Film transfer facility. This is being used to save old 35MM feature films. These films are being restored and delivered on 35MM film, Digital Film and High Definition. I have also designed and built the ABC NewOne client operations for both the Demarcate and Republican National Conventions. This involved setting up 43 Cameras and 5 control rooms, these facilities where in all formats around the world, including SD, HD, NTSC and PAL in each city. I was also the technical manager for several major events for ABC, Good Morning America, including the Whistle Stop Tour on the Am-Track train and World News with Charles Gibson Bus Tour.
